POLOKWANE – SHONI Mulaudzi, one of the top 25 Mrs South Africa finalists from Polokwane is determined to represent the province well.

“We’ve got beautiful talent here. Many top people in entertainment, sports, politics and other fields are from Limpopo. If I win the Mrs South Africa title, I will challenge people’s perception of what the province is really like,” she says.

Mulaudzi was entered into the competition by her mother and sister and only found out she was in the top 100 when she was mysteriously told to check out their Facebook page.

Seeing her picture there was a pleasant surprise. Even more pleasant was hearing her name called out when the top 25 were selected.

Mulaudzi, whose dream had always been to win Miss South Africa when she was younger, had to put that dream and her modelling career aside when her father insisted she go to school instead.

“A lot happened and I developed other interests as well,” she says. Other interests included getting married and becoming a mother of two boys.

Mulaudzi, who has always been involved in various community projects, believes that the competition will mean having a platform to have a bigger voice to make a difference in causes that are close to her heart, serving women and children.

“My parents always taught me: ‘the more you help other people, God elevates you’,” she explains.

She says that the competition has opened her eyes and given her a chance by interacting with all those other women to realise her new passion of telling people stories about all the underprivileged communities through documentaries.

As diverse as the backgrounds of the finalists, the similarity is that they are all accomplished in their own fields and are wives and mothers.

Mulaudzi, a property investor who preaches the value in buying property, has gained invaluable lessons in grooming, presentation, tolerance and many more, which will help her to be a better wife, mother and business partner.

“About 70% of the competition is workshops and interviews, we are not just pretty faces. The whole point is to find ambassadors who will represent the country well.”
