School needs sponsorship for the nationals

Millennium Combined School's u/16 netball team is through to the national championships in the schools netball league after they defeated Azwifarwi Secondary School in the provincial finals recently.

POLOKWANE – Millennium Combined School’s u/16 netball team is through to the national championships in the schools netball league after they defeated Azwifarwi Secondary School in the provincial finals recently.

Millennium is now preparing for the national tournament in Boksburg from July 28 until August 2.

One of the players, Mokgaetji Mello, said for the past few years, the school lost a chance to proceed to the nationals as they were eliminated in the last stage of the tournament .

She said this would be the first time most of the players in the team played in the nationals and they were happy with the achievement.

However, the team does not have enough funds to travel to Boksburg to compete in the tournament.

“Most of the players in the team are from underprivileged families hence they cannot afford to pay the money requested to be able to play in the nationals.

“We are expected to pay R2 500 each, which will cover transport, accommodation, meals and team attire. We are in need of a sponsorship,” said Mello.

The coach, Victor Seakamela, said this was not the first time the school played in the nationals and he was happy with the way players committed themselves to win such opportunities. “The school and parents are also delighted about our achievement. The biggest problem at the moment is finances,” said Seakamela.

Anyone who is willing to assist the team can contact Seakamela at 082 319 5854.
