Young cross country athlete headed to nationals

POLOKWANE – Kamogelo Masemola (19) from Zebediela is a top provincial athlete and will, together with other athletes in the province, represent the province at the national cross country championships in Middelburg on September 12.

Limpopo Athletics (Lima) affiliated under Athletics South Africa (ASA) hosted cross country running events, in which various clubs participated at Tom Naudé Technical High School on Saturday.

The icy wind did not stop the athletes from doing their events and the winners of the various categories received medals for their efforts.

The runners competed in different distances from 2 km up to 8 km.

Speaking on behalf of cross country in the province, Phillip Entres said the winners would be selected to form one team that would represent the province at the national championship.

Masemola took the championships title in the 8 km cross country run. His coach, Lucky Morema, said he was proud of Morema’s performance.

“ll the people I coach, and have coached in the past, are disciplined and very hard workers. I’m happy they are putting our province on the map,” he said.
