POLOKWANE – BOSTON City Campus and Business College Polokwane has introduced some developments in their degree and diploma technology-based learning.

Maleney Beneke, Boston City Campus and Business College Polokwane branch manager, said they wanted to introduce what Boston City Campus had to offer to the cooperate industry to help them improve the skills of their personnel.

“We provide full support to our students, whether they are studying full or part time.

“We don’t have formal lecture structures like other tertiary institutions, instead, every subject has a workshop where a trained and qualified advisor assists the students with technical details.

“Each student is allocated a computer where they register, they will ‘attend class’ on that computer every time they log in on the website.

“The lecture is pre-recorded and if the students don’t understand, they can rewind,” said Beneke.

“We would like to encourage companies to use us as a local source to provide education to their employees.

“We also have vocational studies where they can choose subjects. We would like to offer this service so companies can send their employees to strengthen their skills.

“We also want to introduce Boston City Campus and Business College to the business community.

“At Boston City Campus and Business College, we have over 80 courses that we offer and we have four gateway courses which we offer to those who did not qualify for degrees.”

She said in terms of students looking for career options, Boston City Campus and Business College offered a wide range of qualifications.

“If a student doesn’t qualify for the mandatory entrance requirement at a university, they can enrol for a gateway course, which is six months and they will get credits for their subjects which will put them in a position to qualify to enrol in any university.

“We also offer gr. 12 equivalent courses which are internationally recognised as they are endorsed by the University of Washington,” she said.

She further said the college offered different programmes; there was the occupational programme, where students gained experience at work and they provided material for students to be able to get knowledge.

The other programme is called professional education, where 70% was theoretical and 30% was practical.

“Boston City Campus and Business College offers what we call a blended system, which means we have a lecture setup.

“Boston City Campus and Business College has part-time and full-time study.

“As from next year August, we will be offering evening classes as well. We now offer a diploma in higher management and we also have short courses you can enroll in, like for example paralegal studies, which are one year courses.

“We also have exceptional accounting courses which we offer like a diploma and certificate in financial accounting and we are endorsed by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers.

“In Polokwane, we also offer media consulting, the subjects include journalism,” she said.
