Good Pemps saints to the rescue

Pemps learners and their parents recently embarked on a fundraising drive where they collected clothes and food parcels, which they donated to Itumeleng Drop-in Centre last Tuesday.

POLOKWANE – Pemps learners and their parents recently embarked on a fundraising drive where they collected clothes and food parcels, which they donated to Itumeleng Drop-in Centre last Tuesday.

The project coordinator, Mabine Mametja, said this was part of the school’s caring and sharing programme, which they held annually to help the needy.

The principal, Desiree Conradie, said: “we donate things such as blankets, food parcels and clothes to various drop-in centers in Polokwane. We started this programme a few years ago as we wanted to create a caring and sharing norm among the learners”.

Conradie added that they cared for one centre for a certain period until they saw that it was fit enough to stand on its own, before they proceeded to another centre.

She thanked Mametja for his hard work and management.

Mametja said the project took him about four weeks to arrange.

“We ask the learners, with the help of their parents, to collect whatever they can so we can assist the less fortunate. The project has been running for a few years and we realised that it helped a lot,” said Mametja.

He urged other schools to establish such projects to make a difference in the community.

Selina Sebola of Itumeleng Drop-in Centre said they were very happy to receive the donation from Pemps.

“Pemps has been taking care of the centre since 2010 and we would like to thank them for their effort. I want to thank God for answering our prayers. We were out of food, but we prayed for a miracle to occur and indeed good saints came to the rescue,” she said.
