POLOKWANE – Curro Heuwelkruin staged the play, The Box last Wednesday evening at the school.
The play was directed by Leopold Senekal, who said he enjoyed working with the learners.
“Through many a rehearsal, from my cold, dusty garage to dark nights on stage, we managed to navigate this production together, exploring the explosive verse of Ginsberg, discovering the oceans of Maya Angelo and travelling to the shores of Whitman and Tagore,” he says.
The material used was an abstract and eclectic mix of some of the world’s best known works by poets from around the world. The poems were used to tell a story, with the actors using an empty box as a prop.
“I would like to thank my lovely inspirational wife, Nicole for all her little tweaks and Johan Marx for all his technical help. I would also like to thank Seeff Polokwane for their generous sponsorship, and last but not least, thank you to the parents,” said Senekal.
