Lim soccer star shines at PSL Awards

Kaizer Chiefs defender, Tefu Mashamaite from Bochum just outside Polokwane was one of the big winners at the 2014/15 Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards

POLOKWANE – Kaizer Chiefs defender, Tefu Mashamaite from Bochum just outside Polokwane was one of the big winners at the 2014/15 Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards, which were held at the Sandton Convention Center on Sunday.

Mashamaite won awards in three of the four categories he was nominated in. He walked away with the 2014/15 footballer of the season award, the Absa Premiership player’s player of the season award and the Absa Premiership defender of the season award and a total cash prize of R450 000.

He started his soccer career at Dipitsi FC and later joined Wits University from 2003 to 2005. He joined Bidvest Wits in late 2005 until 2011, before he proceeded to Chiefs.

He played every league match for Chiefs in the 2013/14 season, and scored the solitary goals during the 2014 MTN 8 final against Orlando Pirates and again against Ajax Cape Town to help Chiefs set a new domestic record of 15 consecutive wins.

Limpopo premier, Stanley Mathabatha congratulated Mashamaite on his awards.

Mathabatha said although Limpopo ran short of resources, the provincial government did all it could to support sports stars.

“A time will come, and very soon, where teams and our champions, be it in sport, education or science, will not need assistance from other people. A time when we will be able to accommodate our children and compete against the world and win,” he said.
