Meet the new Jeep Renegade, now at Mercurius Motors Polokwane

THE all-new Jeep Renegade has been awarded the prestigious Euro NCAP five-star rating with an overall score of 80 out of 100.

POLOKWANE – THE all-new Jeep Renegade has been awarded the prestigious Euro NCAP five-star rating with an overall score of 80 out of 100.

This newest addition to the Jeep vehicle line-up, launched in South Africa in April, achieved a score of 87% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 65% for pedestrian protection and 74% for the driving assistance safety systems. The new and safe Renegade is now available at Mercurius Motors Polokwane.

For comprehensive protection, the new Jeep Renegade comes standard with six airbags for the driver, front passenger, side window bags for all rows and side bags

for front seats. Added to that are ESC (electronic stability control) with ERM (electronic roll mitigation).

The safety equipment, depending on market and trim level, feature as standard or on request more important systems such as:

• Blind-spot monitoring.

• Rear cross path detection.

• Adaptive cruise control.

• Park view reversing camera with dynamic grid lines. One of the most innovative systems available on the new Jeep Renegade is the forward collision warning plus (assisted braking system), the first in the category in terms of reliability and precision, which uses radar and video sensors to detect whether the car is approaching another vehicle or obstacle in its path too rapidly. In these cases, the system warns or assists the driver in order to avoid impact or mitigate its consequences.

Finally, the Jeep Renegade can be equipped with the lane sense departure warning plus and blind spot monitoring systems. The first uses the camera’s optical sensor to establish the road position of the vehicle with respect to the horizontal markings present on the road surface.

In the case of an unintentional lane change, which the system recognises if the vehicle changes trajectory without activating the direction indicators, a visual alert is issued along with a tactile signal sent by the electric power steering (EPS). If the driver does not react promptly, the system issues a second visual alert.

The blind spot monitoring system on the other hand uses ultra broadband radar sensors to assist the driver during lane changes, indicating the presence of other vehicles in blind spots by lighting up icons on the door mirrors and activating an acoustic signal chosen by the driver.

The Jeep Renegade launched in South Africa with the introduction of the front wheel drive versions. These will be followed later in the year by the all-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions.
