Another twist in the Patel case

The investigating officer which was due to testify in court today (Thursday) collapsed.

POLOKWANE – The bail hearing of Rameez Patel was interrupted when the investigating officer, Const David Nkuna, which was to testify in court today (Thursday) collapsed.

According to information Nkuna was feeling emotionally drained.

He had informed the court on Tuesday that he would not be available to testify until after May 19, as he was on study leave.

The state wanted to postpone the bail application but Adv. Stefanie Fourie objected.

She said she has sympathy for Nkuna’s emotional state, but that the continuous postponement of the bail application was a violation of Patel’s human rights and the bail application must be finalised today.

Court adjourns for lunch. Another witness will be called to the stand this afternoon.
