Mobile police units still here

POLOKWANE – Last year mobile police stations were placed in and around the city to boost awareness of crime and help improve crime prevention by ensuring a visible police presence.

Since then many of these mobile stations are no longer operational and have been removed. Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, gave his assurance that there were still enough mobile police stations available, such as at the Mall of the North and other shopping centres, to assist in the reporting of crimes as well as the certification of documents. He said each mobile unit was manned by two police officials, and was well equipped to serve the communities they were deployed to serve.

“Each mobile police station has the resources to make arrests, take statements and act as information centres,” Phala said. He said the mobile police stations that had been removed had not been made use of by residents regularly, which was why they had been removed.
