‘Stench’ makes life difficult in Ladanna

Residents living in Bulawayo Street between Blaauwberg and Bus Street in Ladanna had to endure an awful stench throughout last week until further investigation revealed that the cause was a raw animal hide, thought to be that of a cow, which had been dumped in some veld nearby.

POLOKWANE – Residents living in Bulawayo Street between Blaauwberg and Bus Street in Ladanna had to endure an awful stench throughout last week until further investigation revealed that the cause was a raw animal hide, thought to be that of a cow, which had been dumped in some veld nearby.

“I don’t know what people are thinking and why they just don’t care how doing this will affect the people living nearby. It is obvious that they do not live nearby as they would not have been able to endure the stench,” one angry resident said.

Illegal dumping has become a regular occurrence in the city, with the municipality barely being able to keep up with removing such debris.

Municipal spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene, said the Weltevreden landfill site on the Silicon road was a designated place where raw hide and other animal wasted could be disposed of.

Should it be disposed of anywhere else in the city, it would be considered illegal dumping and people could be liable to pay a fine of between R300 and R1 200.

She further said the municipal waste management unit was responsible for the removal of such waste, and incidents such as this could be reported to the unit (015) 290 2366/7 or (015) 290 2544.
