Battle is on for who will co-host awards

LIMPOPO – A SOCIAL media online contest to win a chance to co-host the upcoming first annual Limpopo Film, Arts, Music and Entertainment (Fame) Awards has begun.

Organisers have initiated a creative selection process online pairing known radio and television personalities, as well as musicians together to compete for votes online, and in so doing, give audiences the opportunity to choose their own masters of ceremony for the awards ceremony.

Fans have already started participating by choosing their preferred co-host through social media platforms Facebook and Twitter.

The Fame Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on May 2, is expected to be Limpopo’s hallmark event that will draw together tourists, local people, business, youth and community organisations, media and visitors from all over Limpopo on an annual basis to celebrate the community’s richness and heritage in film, arts, music and entertainment. It aims to honour the work of Limpopo artists who are doing exceptionally well in their careers.

Fame Awards organiser, Matodzi Makananisa, commended the people of Limpopo for the support they were showing for the awards. “We have really been blessed with the huge participation in the online competition. We are really getting positive feedback and had to appoint extra people to assist us,” she said.

The nomination process for the awards is already underway and will officially close on Friday. The nominees will then be announced at a party to be held at Sun Meropa in Polokwane.

Special recognition awards will be handed to some veterans of the arts including Skeem Saam actress, Lydia Mokgokoloshi, reggae star, Colbert Mukwebo and filmmaker, Ntshavheni Wa-Leruli.

The public will then be able to vote for their favourite personalities by sending an SMS.
