Human beings are influenced by colour. Each colour has a set of clearly defined influences and meanings, which can be invaluable in understanding the world around us and our behaviour.

These qualities can be used to create impressions on others. A desired image or a subtle message can be sent with colour much more effectively than with words.

Red is the colour with the longest wave length. It is the nearest visible light to infrared in the electromagnetic spectrum. Although red occurs beyond the infrared. It maintains close connections with heat and warmth. Even rocks will become red when they are heated sufficiently.

Too much heat and red burns, but at the right level it supports our lives and gives us comfort. Being the colour of blood, red has symbolic links with living and life.

Wearing red, eating red foods and surrounding yourself with red increases the body’s ability to absorb iron, the metal that is responsible for the colour of haemoglobin in the blood.

The effect of red on the eye is quite unusual. For the colour to be seen, the eye itself makes internal adjustments. This alteration means that we see red objects as closer than they really are.

Red can easily lead to excess as its own mature is impulsive and reckless. Drunken behaviour exemplifies many qualities of too much red energy. When a woman wears the colour red, it has an immediacy and boldness. It says I am here, notice me and is closely associated with illicit passion.

Use red if you want to come across as a bold and dynamic person, wear a red scarf or a tie. This is especially effective if you have an event coming up at which your confidence needs a boost, such as an interview or a presentation.

You might also find this useful for a social occasion when you feel nervous about meeting new people.

Put red in your life you experience:

• A lack of enthusiasm and interest in life;

• A lack of energy and a feeling of over-tiredness;

• An inability to make your dreams a practical reality, and

• a feeling of insecurity, unwarranted fear, or anxiety.
