Tug of war between chairperson, coach

REENSIDE FC's coach was recently shown the door after he was accused by the team's chairperson of selling nyaope and dagga to players between the ages of 15 and 17 years.

SESHEGO – GREENSIDE FC’s coach was recently shown the door after he was accused by the team’s chairperson of selling nyaope and dagga to players between the ages of 15 and 17 years.

The coach has since opened a case of crimen injuria against the chairperson.

The chairperson of the team said he found the coach smoking dagga with the players during a training session over the festive holidays. He said upon investigation, it was discovered that the coach sold marijuana and nyaope to the players, but when he was confronted, he denied it.

“When I did my investigations to get to the bottom of the matter, a few players confirmed that he sold them the drugs. I have since banned him from the team and he has been stalking me and even threw stones at me in front of other people,” said the chairperson.

“I went to his house with the police and caught him red-handed while he was busy preparing a dagga joint, but the police did not arrest him. They took the joint from him and destroyed it. He told me later on that no one would touch him, because he was working closely with the police and they were the ones who provided him with the dagga.”

He said he had since opened a case of crimen injuria (the act of unlawfully, intentionally and seriously impairing the dignity of another) against the coach.

The coach said he knew nothing of these allegations. “I have been seeking legal advice so that I can sue him (the chairperson) for dragging my name through the mud,” he said.

Westenburg police spokesperson, Capt Mohlaka Mashiane, said a case of crimen injuria had been opened by the chairperson against the coach.

Mashiane said the chairperson should come to the police station with proof that the police had found dagga on the coach and had not arrested him.

He said the chairperson should not accuse people without proof because this made the police look bad.
