Vhembe woman runs away with marathon win

Rosaline Nyawira secures the victory in the Thavhani Mall 3-in-1 Race half-marathon, showcasing her athletic prowess.

LIMPOPO – Rosaline Nyawira, a member of the Vhembe Athletics Club, claimed victory in the 21.1km women’s category at the Thavhani Mall 3-in-1 Race last Saturday.

She completed the race in 1:28:00, securing a win. “I’m happy to have won my Thavhani Mall race. It was a tough race, but everything went as planned.”

She said that discipline and humility are key to success. “The most important thing is to be disciplined, humble, and listen to your parents and coach.”

Joyce Netshifhefhe from the Maxed Elite Athletics Club finished second in 1:35:00, followed by veteran athlete Jane Mudau from Nedbank Athletics Club in third place.

In the men’s 21.1km category, Zainel Tsipa from the Polokwane Athletics Club dominated the race, finishing with a time of 1:08:48, over two minutes ahead of Isaac Moshia from the Gladness Athletics Club (1:10:52). Samuel Manamela from the the University of Limpopo Athletics Club came third with a time of 1:13:54.

Tsipa, thrilled with his win, announced his plans to compete in the Comrades Marathon next year. He encouraged aspiring athletes to remain focused and place their trust in God.

It was a tough race, but everything went as planned,” he said, adding that he was pleased with the large turnout and hoped for an even better event next year.

The top finishers in the 21.1km race for both men and women walked away with prizes ranging from R6 000 to R1 200, while winners of the 10km race collected prizes between R1 800 and R800.
