Polokwane runner eyes top 10 in Cape Town marathon

44-year-old veteran marathoner from Polokwane, Rufus Photo, targets top 10 finish at Cape Town Marathon, proving age is just a number.

POLOKWANE – Despite being 44 years old, veteran marathoner Rufus Photo remains determined to win major titles. Staying fit by participating in local races, Photo is gearing up to compete in the Cape Town Marathon on October 19, where he will join top runners from across the continent.

The prestigious Cape Town Marathon not only highlights Cape Town and Africa’s iconic champions but also showcases the city’s vibrant culture on a global stage.

“People say I’m old, but I still have the legs to compete in every marathon. I’ll be running with the best, and I’m aiming for a top 10 finish. I believe I can achieve that,” said Photo.

Earlier this year, he faced disappointment at the Comrades Marathon, missing the top 10. He attributed his performance to a mishap involving his nutritional supplements, which went missing on race day.

“It affected me mentally. I prefer my own special supplements, but they weren’t available, and it threw me off.”

Despite this setback, Photo is optimistic about his future.

“I still have a lot to offer in running. I’m fit, I feel younger, and I have two more years to compete in the Comrades Marathon. My goal is to finish in the top three.”

Photo remains focused on his upcoming race, determined to prove that age is just a number.
