POLOKWANE – The Department of Education is gearing up for the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, set to begin on October 21.
The Premier, Dr Phophi Ramathuba officially launched the NSC exam countdown, stressing the need for the province to break the 80% pass rate barrier and rank among the top five performing provinces in the country.
The national Department of Basic Education (DBE) has set an ambitious goal for the 2024 class – to achieve a matric pass rate of over 80%.
“We are confident that this target is within reach, given the encouraging performance across terms 1, 2, and 3 of this academic year,” said Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, the MEC of Education.
To support this goal, the department has rolled out several intervention programmes, including supplementary classes, targeted assessments, and preparation support for learners. Schools across the province are currently running ‘Last Push’ programmes, focusing on subjects and learners in need of additional assistance.
With just 12 days to go, the department has confirmed their readiness to administer both internal and external examinations, ensuring that all systems are in place for a smooth 2024 NSC exam period.
