Eskom Expo: Capricorn region’s bright minds shine

Young scientists shine at Eskom Expo regional finals, showcasing projects and celebrating the expo's 40 years in the Capricorn Region.

POLOKWANE – Eskom expo hosted their annual regional finals for their young scientists in the Capricorn Region in August at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi sports complex in Seshego.

The event saw 126 young scientists showcasing their innovation and research skills by presenting a range of 106 projects. This two-day event was a testament to the breadth and depth of scientific exploration among young minds.

The event was aimed at learners interested in the scientific field, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their passion for science.

The young scientists expressed that they are deeply curious about global events and enjoy exploration, which is why they decided to participate in the science fair.

Some mentioned that they are passionate about helping others and believe that science is the best path to do so.

Out of 106 projects, eight were selected to participate in the International Science Fair scheduled to take place in Johannesburg from September 24-27. Winners also walked away with medals, trophies, certificates, tablets, calculators, and dictionaries, amongst other goodies.

The region has been hosting the Eskom Expo regional science fair for 40 years, making the event a celebration of this significant milestone.

Parthy Chetty, the executive director of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, attended the event and conveyed his heartfelt message of support to all participants.

He also congratulated the region for their remarkable achievement of 40 years in the industry.

“The event was made successful by several partners such as University of Limpopo, Capricorn District Municipality, Limpopo Fabrication Lab, Limpopo Department of Education, Ranyaka and the support from Eskom Holdings, the National and provincial office of the Eskom Expo for young Scientists and a team of volunteers including the regional committee, administrators and judges,” said Rikhotso Sandile.
