Young Venda entrepreneur on the rise

Vhutshilo Ramahanedza's Mukololo is a proudly South African dinnerware brand that's not just a business, but a reflection of her culture and identity.

LIMPOPO – The number of young women entrepreneurs in South Africa is growing and they are contributing significantly to job creation and economic development.

Among them is Vhutshilo Ramahanedza, the founder of Mukololo, a proudly South African dinnerware set brand.

Ramahanedza, who studied logistics management, pursued entrepreneurship out of a desire to create a “guilt-free” dinnerware set. Mukololo, which means “Princess,” is not just a business but a reflection of her culture and identity. “Mukololo is close to home; it speaks to my roots, and the hands on the logo represent the way Venda women greet each other,” she said.

Though she admits she was never an academic, her street smarts and determination have paved the way for her business success. “I was motivated to start my business because of my son. He deserves the best, and I want to make life easier for him,” she said.

Ramahanedza’s family has played a significant role in her journey, helping pack orders late into the night and assisting with deliveries.

Starting a business wasn’t easy for her, and she faced numerous challenges along the way.

“I obsessed over the idea, did research, and sought advice from others who had walked this path. I hit a lot of brick walls, but my passion kept me going,” she explained. Despite these hurdles, her business has thrived, largely because it operates in a niche market.

Her vision for Mukololo extends beyond South Africa. “I want to see Mukololo grow globally. It’s my biggest achievement so far, and I hope to one day open my own store,” she said. She also asks her customers for patience as she balances a full-time job in supply chain management with running her business.

Ramahanedza encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to stay humble and persevere. “It’s not easy, but if you know what’s expected, it’s doable. All you need is knowledge about the different aspects of your business,” is her advice.
