Police foil livestock theft in Rakgoadi
Three suspects arrested for stolen livestock after police find sheep in their vehicle, with suspects set to appear in court.
POLOKWANE – Three suspects aged between 29 and 34-years-old were arrested in Rakgoadi during patrol duties in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 27.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the police found seven sheep, including a lamb, in a suspicious vehicle, leading to the arrest of the suspects for possession of suspected stolen livestock.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were on their way to an auction in Groblersdal.”
The owner was located, and the sheep were handed over.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the arrest and emphasised the importance of preserving the legacy of livestock.
“We will continue to explore new strategies to preserve the stock of our forefathers because this is a bank that our mothers and fathers kept to rescue the families on rainy days. The net is closing to those determined to break this African bank.”
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court today (August 28).
Police investigations are continuing.
