Special celebration as Elsie Thomson turns 80

Elsie Thomson celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends at Huis Lindekroon Overnight Accommodation on Saturday.

POLOKWANE – Elsie Thomson celebrated her 80th birthday with family and friends at Huis Lindekroon Overnight Accommodation on Saturday.

The celebration started with a garden tea in the morning and in the evening, a dinner was held.

Thomson is the third eldest of nine children, but some of her siblings died over the years and now she is the eldest of six children – five daughters and a son.

Thomson’s siblings live in Johannesburg, Windhoek, Jagersfontein and Polokwane, and except for one of her sisters who took ill, all her siblings were here to celebrate her birthday.

Her husband of 50 years died in April 2001, and her only child, Norman, lives in Cape Town. She is also a grandmother of three and a great-grandmother of one.

For more than 40 years, Thomson worked at Ons Tuiste Old Age Home and was part of the management team.

“When I look back, I can honestly say the years at Ons Tuiste were the best and most important years in my life. It is a privilege for me to still be part of Ons Tuiste,” Thomson said.

“I am blessed with a wonderful family who loves and cares for me. Thanks to my sisters, brother and brother-in-law who came all the way to celebrate my birthday with me.

“Part of my blessings are the wonderful friends that I have who fill my life with love and friendship every day.”
