Seshego to host Baseball 5-a-side youth championship

The tournament will showcase South Africa's strong presence in the Baseball 5 community, both in Africa and globally.

POLOKWANE – The Ngoako Ramatlhodi Sport Complex in Seshego will host the Southern Africa Baseball 5-a-side Youth Championship from August 8 to 13.

This event is a fantastic opportunity for South Africa to showcase Baseball 5-a-side, drawing participants from Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa.

The championship provides youths with the chance to participate in the Baseball 5-a-side competition while offering the local organising committee valuable experience in event management.

Behind the scenes, umpires and officials are diligently working to ensure the championship’s success. An advanced administration team of umpires and officials is being assembled, with numerous online courses rolled out to enhance their skills and readiness for the event.

Thabang Letsoalo, president of the Limpopo Baseball Federation, assured that all systems are ready for this major event. “We had extensive planning and preparation. This will be our first regional baseball event in Limpopo. We are urging the sport-loving people of Limpopo to come and join us for fun and entertainment,” he said.

Letsoalo added that the tournament will showcase South Africa’s strong presence in the Baseball 5 community, both in Africa and globally.

Marc Moreau, the president of South African Baseball, expressed his enthusiasm: “South African Baseball is looking forward to the opportunity to showcase South Africa as the leading baseball structure on the continent. This event highlights that Baseball 5-a-side is an Olympic code and will be featured in the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026.”

Among the local players joining the national baseball team are Khomotjo Makgawa from the the Botlokwa Trailblazers and Kwena Seema from the Moletjie baseball team.
