Teacher arrested in Polokwane for drug related crime

Police arrest teacher for drug dealing and possession, seizing drugs worth R20 000 and an unlicensed firearm in Polokwane CBD.

POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad continue to strengthen against illegal drug-related activities across the province.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that on Tuesday (July 16), while police conducted patrol duties in the Capricorn District hotspots, a 33-year-old male educator was arrested for dealing and possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

On Tuesday afternoon, police received information about a silver hatchback suspected of distributing and selling drugs in Polokwane Central Business District (CBD).

Police arrived in the area and began searching for the vehicle. They located and tactically cornered it on General Piet Joubert and Rissik Street.

“The vehicle and its single occupant were searched, where police discovered money, drugs with an estimated street value of R20 000, and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition concealed inside it,” says Ledwaba.

The suspect was arrested at the scene, and his motor vehicle was subsequently impounded.

The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the SAPS members for their continued efforts to combat drug-related crime in the province.

“Such educators who are on drugs cannot be entrusted with the education of our children; we call for the Department to take harsh measures and remove such from the system and its payroll.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate court, facing a charge of dealing and possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

Police investigations are continuing.
