City FC overhauls squad ahead of new PSL season

Polokwane City FC releases veteran players ahead of the new season while star defender returns.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane City Football Club have released some of the veteran players ahead of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season which commences in August.

Players released by the club include Ndumiso Mabena who has won the league with Orlando Pirates and played for Bloemfontein Celtic and Royal AM.

Other players include Given Mashikinya and Lucky Baloyi formerly with Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs respectively.

The club has been working hard at training since returning from their off-season break on June 25, and are expected to announce the new recruits later this month.

The orange army welcomed their star defender Thabang Matuludi who was part of the Bafana Bafana Cosafa team.

Bafana Bafana were eliminated from the Cosafa Cup despite beating Swaziland 1-0 in their final Group A match held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The South African soccer team finished second with Mozambique who beat Botswana 2-1 in the other match topping the group.
