Mankweng woman allegedly kills toddler (3) with a spade during lovers tiff

A 20-year-old woman is said to have attacked a three-year-old child with a spade and the mother of the child with boiling hot water during a love triangle tiff.

POLOKWANE – A 20-year-old Moremadi Park woman is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder and attempted murder following a violent love triangle tiff on Wednesday evening.

Upon arrival to the residential area, Mankweng police found a male foreign national who led them to a three-year-old child on a bed with a severe wound to the upper body.

The child was certified dead on the scene by emergency services who were summoned to the scene.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the suspect fought with the 24-year-old mother of the child and wife of the foreign national who called the police.

“During the fight, the suspect, who is alleged to be the man’s girlfriend hit the child with a spade that led to her death. The suspect then attacked the child’s mother with boiling hot water. The woman sustained severe burn wounds and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment,” Ledwaba said.

The suspect was arrested at the scene.

Ledwaba said police investigations continue.
