Foreign duo arrested for murder of man outside Mankweng

The victims were accused of being involved in a business robbery at a spaza shop owned by one of the suspects before one succumbed to his injuries.

POLOKWANE – Two foreign nationals will appear before the Mankweng District Court today on a charge of murder following their arrest on Tuesday.

The duo, ages 20 and 50-years-old, were arrested in connection with the murder of Sipho Letsoalo (40) in Mahoa village, Ga Mothapo, under the Mankweng policing area.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the first victim alleges sleeping at home when his mother woke him up and told him there were people outside who wanted to see him.

“The victim went outside and found three unknown men who forced him into a white bakkie parked outside the yard. The family tried to fight the suspects but were overpowered and the suspects drove towards Maremadi village,” his statement read.

The family then mobilised the community and followed the suspects. On arrival at the scene, the victims were found with severe injures and the police were notified.

“The victims were transported to the nearest hospital and the second victim succumbed to his injuries. He was identified by his sister as Sipho Letsoalo who resided in Mentz village. The victims were accused of being involved in the business robbery at a spaza shop owned by one of the suspects,” Ledwaba said.

He added that the two suspects were arrested on the scene and charged with murder.

“More arrests are expected and police investigations continue.”
