Polokwane pensioners unwind on Portuguese Island

The excited members from the Polokwane Pensioners Association left on Friday and safely returned on Monday.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Pensioners Association, which consists of 246 affiliated members, embarked on a luxurious trip to the Portuguese Island on the MSC Orchestra cruise ship with the aim of promoting the interests of over-fifties in the city.

The trip, attended by 30 members of the association, was planned and organised by member Mokgatjana Mathsa. The group drove from Polokwane to Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport, took a flight to King Shaka International Airport in Durban and eventually embarked on the cruise ship to Mozambique. The excited members left on Friday and safely returned on Monday.

Association members travelled on the Blue Train and a cruise ship to Dubai last year in October and the upcoming trip for June to Spain will be organised by secretary of the association Mabuse Molepo and chairperson Malehu Masehela. “We believe that at our age groups, going on vacations can be good stress relievers. We have also experienced with our previous trips that travelling reduces anxiety, and improves our overall happiness and well-being. It helps us get more active and provides opportunities for our personal growths as we explore new cultures and meet new people when we travel the world,” Molepo said.

He told Polokwane Observer that as pensioners, they saw the need to organise themselves for the purpose of interacting to enhance their lives and interest and to contribute effectively to the community. “We welcome more pensioners to join our association. Here’s to many more friendships and trips.”
