Shoppers fill trolleys at The Greenery

The Greenery is situated on a prime location on the corner of Grobler, Oost and Thabo Mbeki and Oost streets, giving it superb visibility for local shoppers.

POLOKWANE – The Greenery, Polokwane’s latest convenience shopping centre, hosted its opening in grand style on October 26.

Co-owner Gerald Correia (Jr) from the Networth Group, his wife Claudia, son Benjamin and daughter Olivia were among the many locals who flocked to the centre, to experience the latest shopping thrill in town.

“I’m a proud product of Capricorn High School, when we stayed in the green house, which is now opposite the centre, in 1992. I finished matric in 1998 and this is when my dad, Gerald (Sr) and I came up with the idea to build a shopping centre in this very spot. It has always been our dream and to complete that dream, we approached Jannie Moolman. We then put our heads together and along with our teams who worked really hard, we created this convenient centre,” Correia said.

Co-owned and developed by the Networth and Moolman Groups, The Greenery last week opened with 23 handpicked retailers comprising well-known favourites plus a variety of local stores and specialty services.

The 11 000m2 centre brings a fresh, upmarket and vibrant neighbourhood shopping experience right to the doorsteps of Polokwane’s residents.

Polokwane Mayor John Mpe honoured the invitation as he addressed guests at the food court piazza.

“It gives us profound pleasure as a city to be part of this event to open The Greenery. We saw it necessary to honour the Networth and Moolman Group’s invitation because we believe that your vision promises to unleash the potential for economic activities for our city. This land is formally known as a municipal nursery which has now been turned into a beautiful site. This is definitely a tribute to the former nursery,” Mpe remarked.

The Greenery is situated on a prime location on the corner of Grobler, Oost and Thabo Mbeki and Oost streets, giving it superb visibility and excellent accessibility for local shoppers, with its proximity to schools, medical and other amenities in the area. Development director Steph Beyers from the Moolman Group said The Greenery enhances retail choice in Polokwane with daily community convenience in the heart of Polokwane. “This thoughtful development will reinvigorate the area and stimulate the local economy. Shoppers can expect to see the latest design specs and finishes from participating retailers,” Beyers said.

He added that the centre is an investment that is designed to benefit its community and its environment.

Joint CEO of the Networth Group, Joe Mokwevho was next to address the more than 300 locals who were employed during the construction and development of The Greenery. “We have also managed to create 500 permanent jobs to 99% of Polokwane residents,” Mukwevho said.

The Greenery will be fully operational during loadshedding and energy efficiency is supported by the exclusive use of LED lighting. “We have also made water saving a priority, with measures including metered taps in restrooms and tenant shops. This project is proof that public-private participation works. We have a synergy with the Polokwane Municipality and applaud it for taking this approach,” Mukwevho addresed. The Greenery features an impressive line-up of anchor tenants, comprising the latest specification Checkers, Checkers Liquor, Woolworths Food and Woolworths Cellar, Clicks, Meat World, Intercare and West Pack Lifestyle.

In addition, the artfully curated tenant lineup includes Woolworths Edit, Pick n Pay Clothing, Spec-Savers, Petzone, Ackermans, Mr Price, Oasis Water, Repair Desk, Seattle Coffee, Debonairs Pizza, RocoMamas, Mugg and Bean and Crazy Store, as well as a convenient Nando’s drive-through, among others. A highlight at The Greenery is its food court piazza, which serves as communal gathering point, complete with thoughtful finishes, from beautiful tiling to atmospheric lighting that set the stage for the perfect dining ambience. “The Greenery sets the standard for convenience on-the-go.

Every effort has been made to ensure The Greenery becomes the heartbeat of the community and we cannot wait to welcome shoppers to experience it for themselves,” Correia concluded.
