The feat sees the Polokwane-born ace become the second South African to clinch the US Open wheelchair title.

Their victory came after their opponents were forced to withdraw due to illness.

They were scheduled to face the top-seeded Dutch pairing of Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen in the championship match. Griffioen, however, had to withdraw due to illness, resulting in a walkover victory for Montjane and Kamiji.

The feat sees the Polokwane-born ace become the second South African to clinch the US Open wheelchair title after the legendary Lucas Sithole who achieved the same feat in 2013.

Montjane’s provincial teammate Donald Ramphadi, who was named Sportsman of the Year with a Disability at the 2021/22 Limpopo Sport and Recreation Awards, and his partner Andy Lapthorne secured the runner-up position.

The duo lost to Dutch top seed Sam Schroder and Niels Vink by 6-1, 6-2.
