Strained water levels to continue in Polokwane

Constant power outages at the Ebenezer Plant has left the city's taps dry, according to the Polokwane Municipality.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane Municipality says the strained water levels in the city will continue to suffer despite their expectation that water supply and flow to the city would increase following constant power outages at the Ebenezer Plant.

On Tuesday, municipal spokesperson Thipa Sealala said the plant had not been pumping to Polokwane since Monday night (September 11) and that power supply was only restored on Tuesday afternoon.

However, Selala said the municipality received notification from Lepelle Northern Water (LNW) this morning (September 13) that the plant is off again and that the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality (GTM) was notified of the challenge.

“LWN further indicated that GTM is still searching for the fault,” he said. The constant outages are negatively impacting water supply to all areas within the municipal area including the City of Polokwane, Seshego, Mankweng, Mentz and Segwashi. This is due to reservoir levels not improving due to the outages,” his statement read.

“Those receiving water are urged to use it sparingly,” he said.
