Admitted Limpopo attorney lives her dream

Tsinakaho Mathelemuse's goal is to make legal representation accessible to as many people as possible especially those in rural areas.

LIMPOPO – Being the voice of the voiceless, is what makes admitted attorney Tsinakaho Mathelemuse passionate about her job, and it is no wonder that her colleagues from Rangolo and Mathelemuse Attorneys Inc in Thohoyandou are so fond of her.

Mathelemuse holds an LLB degree from the University of Venda, from where her journey stretched to the School of Legal Practice in Polokwane.

In 2021 she served her clerkship at Mvundlela & Associate Attorneys and wrote her board exams.

“Knowing I can assist people with law-related matters gives me so much satisfaction. My goal is to make legal representation accessible to as many people as possible, especially those in rural areas. I also want to empower aspiring female attorneys, and show people from disadvantaged backgrounds that you can have it all.”

She says her biggest goal is to grow her firm, in order to create jobs for others.

“This profession allows me to learn and grow, and I have learnt so much about the diverse areas of law that impact my clients. My secret to success is perseverance and not letting my background determine my future.”

She said she had experienced many challenges during her educational career.

“My parents did the best they could. My mother used to sell onions and tomatoes for a living, and my father was a cameraman who took ID photos. I used to walk from Maiini village to Thohoyandou every day going to school. Today, I am grateful for a supportive family.”

She met her husband, Joe Maseda during her studies, she told CV.

“He is very supportive of my dreams and assisted me with basically everything from my final year up to my admission. I make sure that I excel in all my duties as a wife, a mother, a sister, and a friend.”

She related another challenge she had as losing her father in her second year of studies: “It was a huge loss, and one I never thought I would be able to overcome”.

She advises young girls that it is possible to realise their dreams if they persevere.

“Be brave, know what you want, and never lose your direction. Once you have made a decision, trust yourself to have done the right thing. The law is broad, be ready to learn, relearn and unlearn some things.”
