Polokwane pool ready to host come September

The pool had been closed for refurbishments since last year, forcing local and national swimming events to be staged outside the province.

POLOKWANE – The Polokwane municipal swimming pool will be ready to host major swimming events as well as leisure swimming events and activities from September 1.

The pool had been closed for refurbishments since last year, forcing local and national swimming events including swimming galas, provincial swimming and national qualification swimming championships to be staged outside the province.

Earlier this year, Limpopo Swimming Aquatics had to move all their major swimming meets to Tzaneen due to the unhygienic state of the pool and the poor water quality.

Mantlako Sebaka, the manager for sport and recreation at the municipality, said the pool had to undergo much-needed cleaning-up to replace scum channels, remove tree stumps and cut off dry tree roots, pave and clean, and repaint the facility.
