Malamulele learners discovered decomposed body in sewer pipe

Police said the gender of the body could not be determined due to the advanced stage of decomposition.

LIMPOPO- A group of learners from Photani Secondary School in Mulamula village in Malamulele on July 28 discovered a decomposed body floating inside a sewer pipe at the school.

Learners say they were practising a dance for an upcoming cultural event, when some stood on top of the pipe leading to debris around the pipe to subside. Upon looking what was inside the pipe, they found a corpse.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, members of the search and rescue diving unit were immediately summoned to the scene.

“They managed to retrieve a body, with blue jeans with traditional bangles. The gender could not be determined due to the advanced stage of decomposition,” he said.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Learners who witnessed the body received counselling from a psychologist and members of the Community Pastor’s Forum.

Justice Mashaba, a member of the School Governing Body, expressed at the gruesome find, and said the incident has left them with many questions.

The corpse was taken to the Giyani government mortuary, where a post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death. The identity of the deceased is also still unknown.
