R1m each for Polokwane City and Sekhukhune Utd

The money forms part of the Limpopo Tourism Agency's initiative to promote sports tourism in the province.

POLOKWANE – Rodgers Monama, the MEC for Economic, Development, Environment said Polokwane City FC and Sekhukhune United will each receive R1 million from Limpopo Tourism Agency.

The money forms part of LTA’s initiative to promote sports tourism in the province.

The two clubs will play their home matches at the stadium and raise the profile of the province in the Premier Soccer League.

Speaking at a congratulatory event held for both clubs at Meropa Casino and Entertainment World on July 25, Monama said they saw it fit to, after the promotion of Polokwane City into the DStv Premiership, play their part by supporting them.

“The move to the PSL has economic spinoffs for the province, especially in the hospitality industry. In a way, they are our ambassadors in terms of profiling and marketing the province. It is within that context that in terms of our development, we need to give them the necessary support so they become better ambassadors for our province.” Tincy Tema, COO of Polokwane City Football Club said the fund will help them cover some of their expenses.

Monama thanked management, the technical team and all the players of Polokwane City Football Club for a job well done, and also for becoming ambassadors of the province.

City and Sekhukhune will play 15 matches each in the Premier Soccer League, which kicks off this month.
