Malamulele beauty represents SA in Egypt

Miss South Africa Continental, Nikiwe Makondo is an advocate for mental health issues and holistic health approaches.

LIMPOPO- Nikiwe Makondo, who was born and raised in Green farm village near Malamulele, said she felt honoured and grateful for the support that led her to win the recent Miss South Africa Continental title.

Makondo, who is also a former Miss South Africa Teen title holder, will represent the country in Egypt in October.

The crowning of her most recent title took place at Gold Reef City on July 14.

“I think what set me apart from the other contestants is the understanding that I have of my purpose in the industry. Transforming, inspiring and empowering people through pageantry is a constant task, and part of the greater purpose God has set out for me. It doesn’t not depend entirely upon a platform,” she said.

She told CV she is also an advocate for mental health issues and holistic health approaches and uses her platform to facilitate a series of conversations around holistic health, called Mind, Body and Spirit.

“I grew up always being the only Tsonga person in certain groups or rooms, rarely seeing young Tsonga people let alone women, occupy big spaces. I grew up having to learn everyone else’s language while others did not learn mine. This lack of representation inspired me to want to be the representation. I want to show young Tsonga girls that they’re dreams are valid too,” she added

Mukondo completed Gr 12 at Lyttelton Manor High School in Gauteng and is currently a final-year student in international relations at the University of Pretoria.
