Polokwane residents donate generously to TLC ward

Following a public appeal for foodstuffs and medicine, TLC facilitator Bobby Were thanked the community for their donations to the ward.

POLOKWANE- The Tough Living with Cancer (TLC) ward at the Pietersburg Provincial Ward, is home to 33 children who receive chemotherapy and other treatments for cancer.

In a recent article, TLC facilitator Bobby Were appealed to the public for donations including foodstuffs and medicine.

He explained though, that the medicines are those for everyday use, and not the type of medication that the hospital does provide.

“One example, is Emla cream that numbs the skin in order not to hurt so much when a needle is placed into a vein. Or Andolex mouthwash, for example, that helps with the mouth sores the children may develop as a result of their treatment.”

Surya Essa and her community recently donated a bakkie-load of food, toys and more to the ward.

“I am thankful for my community who donated so many items that I had to find a bakkie to deliver it. It was too much for my car. We got everything on the list and even more,” she said.

Other generous readers donated new blankets and food. At the Theuns Fichardt Hospitium at LimCare-Well, they make use of a new generator that was bought with public donations.

LimCare-Well manager, Corné Marais explained that due to load-shedding, interruptions are often experienced when patients have to receive oxygen.

“We also need lights at night as it is a safety concern when everything is covered in darkness.”

Bobby would like to thank The Rotary Anns, Hallelujah Fashions, the wider community and those who supported the recent DA drive where food was collected.
