Rotary 100 inducts new president

The Rotary Club Pietersburg 100 inducted their 100th president this past Saturday at the Polokwane Golf Club.

POLOKWANE – During a showpiece event held at the Polokwane Golf Club, the Rotary Club Pietersburg 100 inducted the club’s new president on Saturday.

Rotarians were reminded of Rotary’s objectives, which include the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service, high ethical standards in business and professions, the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

The four-way test is a way by which the Rotarians live and deal with other people. The answer to the following four questions should always be ‘yes’.

• Is it the truth?

• Is it fair to all concerned?

• Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

• Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

During the evening, a few Rotarians and Rotary Anns received Paul Harris Awards.

A Paul Harris Award is awarded to a Rotarian or someone from the community who has shown tangible and significant assistance for the continuance of better understanding and friendly relations among the people of the world.

“The fundraising events we took on, such as the golf day and the expo were successful and we raised enough to help Ons Tuiste with a complete solar system for their frail care section. We hosted successful boys weekends and ladies evenings, and also had a few guest speakers.”

For the second time during his membership at the Rotary Club, Horst Meyer was inducted as president.

He confirmed there will be more and bigger fundraising events and even though the membership of the club is a slight worry, he is sure it will soon be better.

Horst introduced his board as Fred de Wit, John Dunlevey, Johan Joubert, Casper Gilfillan, Pieter Meintjes and Dorian Straub.

Former Rotary Ann president, Adrienne de Wit, handed over the title to Yvonne Joubert, who announced the team of Carin Meintjes, Lara Kirkpatrick and Tina Gilfillan.
