POLOKWANE – The Health Department in a statement expressed condolences at the passing of the senior clinical manager of Mokopane Hospital, Dr Danny Mokumo, who died in a vehicle accident on the N1 on Monday evening.

Neil Shikwambana, spokesperson for the department, said Mokumo joined the department as an intern at Mokopane Hospital in 2015.

“He went on to do his community service work at the Thabamoopo Psychiatric Hospital and was appointed as a medical officer at W.F. Knobel Hospital.”

In 2018, he was appointed as the senior clinical manager of the Mokopane Regional Hospital, making him the youngest appointed senior clinical manager in the province at the time.

“Though he was young, he rose to the occasion and brought stability in the leadership and clinical governance of the hospital. He was passionate in his duties.”

MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba described his passing as an immense loss to the province.

“Death has robbed us of one of our shining stars. Dr Mokumo was not only a capable young doctor, but a passionate doctor who loved the people of his province. He lived, dreamt and breathed rural health. My heartfelt condolences go to his family and colleagues.”
