POLOKWANE – The Joyride Cycling Club does not only host races for fun and fitness, but also to make a difference in people’s lives.

On Saturday, their Annual Charity Ride programme kicked off with a 60km ride to the Sentahle Drop-in Centre in Ga-Maja village, to spend time with residents and enjoying a delicious breakfast with the children and staff.

This was followed by a donation of supplies that included seedlings and gardening tools to ensure that there is a sustainable self-supply of fresh vegetables every day; cooking utensils; stationery and groceries.

They also received assistance in with the repairs of plumbing issues.

The Sentahle Drop-in Centre caters for more than 106 children daily, and assists with school work.

Joyride’s public relations officer Tshepo Chai told Polokwane Observer that the club had previously visited various schools around the province to assist with uniforms, but this year the plan was to ensure that at least one child has a meal every evening.

“Our initial assessment was that the centre needed monthly groceries, a bigger building and plumbing works on the current building, and we therefore decided to assist with these,” she said.

Chai added that the visit incorporated their Annual Charity Ride.

Contributions to purchase the supplies and deliver plumbing services were donated by Polokwane Joyride cyclists supported by businesses in the city including Pholamed, The Eating House, Retsini Nursery, Seshego Marathon and Masana Lodge.

Coca-Cola sponsored Polokwane Joyride cyclists during their 60km ride by providing refreshments at the 30km half-way water point.
