Khathutshelo’s love for writing knows no boundaries

Author Khathutshelo Muthvh's first book Love Has No Boundaries follows the journey of a young man who travelled to Germany as a visitor but ended up as an asylum seeker.

LIMPOPO- Khathutshelo Muthvhi put pen on paper for his first book, entitled Love Has No Boundaries.

Muthuvhi, from Tshisahulu village outside Thohoyandou in Vhembe, but who is based in Germany, said writing is something he has always beheld even as a child.

He started writing poems while still in primary school.

Today, Muthivhi holds a BA in youth development from the University of Venda.

He describes his writing career as “fantastic so far”.

“The first copies of the book were mostly sold in Germany. What makes my career as a writer so wonderful is that in Germany where I live, people love reading and there is thus a market for what I do.”

He said Love Has No Boundaries follows the journey of a young man who went to Germany as a visitor, but ended up as an asylum seeker.

“After living in Germany for some time he fell in love with Grace Müller, a beautiful young German girl. As a refugee, it was not easy for him to convince her he could be the love of her life. Things became all the more complicated when he was introduced to her parents. Her parents could not imagine their beautiful, intelligent daughter seeing an asylum seeker, a refugee from Africa. Grace was at that time studying medicine at the local university in Freiburg, Germany.”

He says his journey as a writer has seen its fair share of challenges.

“I am a family man and a times had to sacrifice some family time to finish the book. It has also been difficult finding the right publisher.”

He said he loves the craft and the energy behind writing.

“Being an independent writer, I write what I want at any given time. Unlike being an academic writer where you write what suits and fits the supervisor, in my writing, I have nobody to report to. My goal is to improve at what I do, and reach out to even more people across the world. I will be happy if my book finds its way into book stores and even be prescribed at schools,” he said.

One thing many people should know about writing is that you need to play many roles as a writer, he advises.

“If you are writing a book about a tragedy, you have to be sad, so that you can relate well with the story. It is not every day that you can write a book, you need a particular moment. If you are writing about a happy story, you have to be in a good mood, so that you can then have enough to write about. Playing those roles can be difficult at times,” he concluded.
