Nail technician and salon owner Shoky shares story

Shoki Teffo says apart from being a nail technician, to some clients she has become a friend, a support network and even therapist as most clients find their pamper time as a time to unwind.

POLOKWANE – Self-taught and employed nail technician Shoky Teffo enjoys exploring her artistic side and believes that creativity in her job is what her customers appreciate the most.

Shoky’s passion in nails stemmed from observing her aunt, who is a qualified nail technician. She began doing nails in 2017 and in 2018, she assisted her aunty at the salon acquiring the necessary skills to branch off on her own.

Shoky says to date, she has been doing her own nails since 2019.

A typical day consists of Shoky grooming the hands and feet of her clients. This involves the application, maintenance, and removal of artificial nails (nail technology) as well as their decoration (nail art).

She says apart from being a nail technician, to some clients she has become a friend, a support network and even therapist as most clients find their pamper time as a time to unwind.

“I hear so many happy and sad stories so with that comes a lot of fun to be a part of a bride’s special day, to do something unique for a birthday, or to assist someone in relaxing after a stressful period” she says.

Shoky always advises her customers is to maintain a good state of their nails by going for regular treatments such as manicures and pedicures.

She adds that the first rule is to treat your nails gently to avoid issues like cracked hands through to painful calluses on feet.”
