Vhembe cyclist grabs silver in Miler Classic

Timothy Ramadwa said he prepares for a race by doing hard work, and then some more hard work.

LIMPOPO- Timothy Ramadwa of Ramahantsha Vhembe Cycling Club ended second in the 100 Miler Classic cycling competition which was held in Zimbabwe from Gweru to Bulawayo on 30 April, finishing the race in 05:12:00.

He also used this race to prepare for the Kremetart race which will be held in Louis Trichardt in September, and which covers 170km.

Ramadwas says his second spot in Zimbabwe is no easy feat, as cyclists participate by invitation only.

“It was a tough race and I was the only South African who participated. It is a great honour to get to represent my country at the highest level.”

It was 2015 that Ramadwa’s natural talent for cycling was discovered when he first competed, and he has been dominating cycling circles since then, making it to various podium places.

One of his goals is to participate in the 94.7 Joburg Ride, which will be held at the FNB Stadium in November.

Asked how he prepares, the answer seems simple: “Hard work, and then some more hard work”.

Besides balancing his job in the SAPS, he also follows a specially formulated training programme, and visits schools to deliver motivational talks.

Here, he touches on the importance of discipline and he encourages learners to remain focused and not let themselves be distracted from their schoolwork. “It is better to inspire the younger children, and to coach and steer their passion in the right direction.”

Ramadwa says his objective is to offer recreational cycling training to interested young people from all around Vhembe. Riders also get to compete provincially and nationally, based on their skills. He encourages active mobility within communities that previously had no access to the sport.
