New premises for local Home Affairs offices as of June

The news of the new premises was welcomed with despondence from some customers, who say they hope this will make a difference in the rate at which services are rendered.

POLOKWANE – The local offices of the Department of Home Affairs, currently situated at Library Gardens in Hans van Rensburg Street, is moving to the corner of Biccard and Thabo Mbeki streets from June 1.

The national Department of Public Works confirmed this earlier this week by Spokesperson Thami Mchunu.

The Polokwane home affairs branch moves to the corner of Biccard and Thabo Mbeki streets from June 1.

When Polokwane Observer reported on the daily rate of slow service at the current offices in October last year due to power cuts and unreliable electricity backup, Limpopo Home Affairs acting manager Thifhelimbilu Machaya acknowledged that there were some challenges, including a faulty generator.

The 65-year-old Khudu Marote from Botlokwa said he could only hope.

“People really wait a long time for their documents to be collected and it is a shame that you are told to come and queue at 04:00 or 05:00 in the morning. By that time, there are already people queuing in the hope of collecting their documents. While the application system seems to be working, the collection part will keep you waiting and queuing for an immense amount of time.”
