Film festival provides exposure for locals
The Kgorong film festival aims to celebrate South Africa's rich history through documentary films that explore varied music scenes.
POLOKWANE – Local filmmakers will have a platform to display their work for two days at the first annual Kgorong Film Festival on April 27-28 at Library Gardens, in a film festival inspired by music.
The festival theme is music, and it aims to celebrate South Africa’s rich history through documentary films that explore varied music scenes, ranging from traditional folk music to Amapiano.
Festival director Sello Chokoe said the festival will capture the history of music in South Africa and the important role that film plays in capturing and preserving cultural heritage.
“The festival aims to create a space that inspires artists from different practices to collaborate and showcase their talent. We hope that the festival will encourage local filmmakers to share their work and not be afraid to release it into the world. There’s support, and we are here to help.”
The festival promises to be an exciting celebration of music, films, and culture and will include various programmes, such as music and film masterclasses, panel discussions and Q&A sessions with filmmakers.
The Kgorong Film Festival is an initiative of the Encounters community festival: Doc activate season 2023, which is supported by the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme (PESP).
Not only will local filmmakers showcase their talent, but they will also connect with audiences, industry professionals and fellow artists.
Tshego Ntshabeleng, one of the coordinators, stated that this is a must-attend event for anyone who wishes to experience music-related films and workshops that will follow.
