City marathon gets new venue ahead of race

More than 2000 runners are expected to participate at the highly anticipated event on Saturday, April 22.

POLOKWANE – The much anticipated Polokwane City Marathon has been moved to the Peter Mokaba Stadium from the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex due to a Premier League Soccer match scheduled for April 22.

According to Corrie Calitz, the chairperson of Polokwane Athletic Club and organiser of the marathon, they want to create a convenient running experience for runners.

“Initially the marathon was booked at the new stadium, but we realised there was a soccer match scheduled on the day. The race will still continue on April 22 and manual entries will open on April 19 until April 21 at the Polokwane Athletic Club’s Clubhouse at the old stadium. We urge runners to make use of the online entry forum to register for the event.”

Runners can register on www.peaktiming.co.za.

Calitz appealed to runners to register on time to ensure a smooth process.

He said they are expecting more than 2 200 runners from various clubs in the country as well as individual and recreational runners.

“Last year we had 1 300 runners at the event. We have no doubt that we will surpass that figure this year. The routes have been approved by the authorities, and we will be having enough marshals en route, and replenishments and food as per the request and requirements of the runners.”
