Lucas to wave Limpopo’s flag at the World Cup

Lucas Lamola (23) is on his way the World Baseball Softball Confederation World Cup in Argentina as part of the South African Softball team.

POLOKWANE – Rising softball star Lucas Lamola has been included in the South African Softball team that will represent the country at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cup pencilled for April 15 to 23 in Argentina.

The 23-year-old is a member of the Limpopo Softball Association and plies his trade at Naledi Spiders Softball Club.

He joined the team in 2008 and has numerous awards, including the coveted best newcomer award at the Limpopo Sports Awards.

He is currently ranked number four as one of the best pitchers in softball.

β€œI am happy to be part of the South African team again. In 2018 I was at the WBSC World Championships in Canada. I was thrown into the deep end and I have gained a lot of experience. As we go to this World Cup, I am hopeful that I will enjoy this tournament and deliver the best results possible.”

Benny Boshomane, executive member of the Limpopo Softball Association, said they are proud to have a representative at the World Cup.

β€œHe has experience, as this is his third World Cup. He is taking the baton from the legendary Tidima Kekana who has been phenomenal in the past years. We would like more players from our province in the national team.”
