Jeanett: The woman behind Capricorn’s warm welcomes

Capricorn High School's receptionist Jeanett Senetla went from knowing very little, to now being able to do her job with her eyes closed.

POLOKWANE – The reception area at Capricorn High School is a warm place, where one of the friendly personalities welcoming you is that of Jeanett Senetla, who has been at the school since 2011.

Heading up the front desk at the school, she says she initially went from knowing very little, to now being able to do the job with her eyes closed.

As with every other job, there are pressures that come with the territory.

“We all have our burdens, but the moment I walk through the school gate, I leave everything behind,” she said.

She says she maintains her composure even when parents are angry or frustrated, because she knows that her goal is to ensure that they walk out of the office having received the best service possible.

“If I become angry too, visitors will not receive the assistance they deserve. As the face of the school, it’s my duty to make sure that the school has a good name,” she said. “I strive to do more, not because I want to be glorified, but because I take my job very seriously.”

She added that she is constantly looking for ways to improve in terms of how she executes her duties.

If she is not at work, her time is spent as a mother of two, a wife, running the usual errands.

She describes herself as a philanthropist who loves to give back to her community.

“I don’t have much, but I feel as if the little that I do have can be shared with someone else, as I know that what I get back is more than what I give,” she explained.

This trait, she said, comes from her mother who was her role model growing up.

“My mom is a selfless person, and I admired everything about her. Even today, as a pensioner, she continues to give from the heart.”

Senetla’s advice to those starting out their careers, is that it’s not always easy working in an office’s reception area, but that it is your duty as an administrator to welcome visitors in a friendly manner.

“Make sure everyone who crosses your path leaves assisted. Do not take everything to heart as people come with their own burdens. The best you can do is to help,” she concluded.
