Duo arrested for brutal attack and hijacking of Limpopo nurse

The nurse was discovered unconscious at the side of the road by a passerby with her hands tied behind her back.

LIMPOPO – Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe applauded the swift arrest of two suspects aged 28 and 32, believed to be responsible for brutal attack of a 49-year-old female nurse during a hijacking that took place on March 10 at Tshitanini village in the Thohoyandou policing precinct.

According to information, the victim went to the fields at Tshififi near Mutshundudi River driving a bakkie. At around 19:00, she was discovered unconscious at the side of the road by a passerby, her hands tied behind her back.

Provincial police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo said police were alerted about the incident and immediately started with initial investigations.

Emergency services personnel responded quickly and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment.

Mojapelo said their preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was accosted by unknown suspects who assaulted her as they hijacked her vehicle. They left her unconscious at the scene.

“The suspects were traced and arrested in Malamulele following a car chase between the police in Malamulele and Thohoyandou with the assistance of a private tracking company. The getaway vehicle carrying the three suspects overturned during the chase. One suspect and his accomplice sustained injuries. The third occupant was unidentified, was certified dead on the scene.

“We have opened a case of car hijacking, attempted murder and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The swift reaction of these members which led to the arrest of suspects is highly commendable,” Hadebe concluded.

Mojapelo further said the two suspects appeared in Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on March 13.
