Polokwane rugby fans can look forward to a Super Rugby warm-up match between the Vodacom Bulls and Toyota Cheetahs early next year.

POLOKWANE – Polokwane rugby fans can look forward to a Super Rugby warm-up match between the Vodacom Bulls and Toyota Cheetahs early next year.

The Vodacom Bulls and Polokwane Municipality made this announcement last Thursday morning during a joint media briefing at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

The Vodacom Bulls will face the Toyota Cheetahs on January 24 at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex.

“Both teams will be looking to assert a bit of early dominance over their rivals, and will no doubt be looking to send a positive pre-season message to their fans,” said Polokwane mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng.

This fixture forms part of a partnership between the Blue Bulls Company and the Polokwane Municipality, which aims to generate funds for tertiary students in Limpopo.

Barend van Graan, CEO of the Blue Bulls Company, said the Polokwane fixture had fast become one of the highlights of their pre-season preparations.

“It’s always a real pleasure for our team to play in Polokwane. The professionalism shown by the organising committee is always of the highest standard, and the reception we receive from the fans is also something that our players and management really look forward to.

“It’s also a great spectacle for all the rugby fans in Polokwane, as most of them are not able to travel to Pretoria or Bloemfontein for Vodacom Super Rugby games.

“But most importantly, we are honoured that by participating in this match, we can assist in enabling young learners to further their education,” said Van Graan.

Nkadimeng said besides entertainment for the fans, the game also presented a welcome opportunity for the municipality to raise funds for tertiary students, who would assist in realising the 2030 Smart City Vision in the future.

Nkadimeng also highlighted the economic benefits that an event of this magnitude held for the city and invited the public to fill the stadium to the brim for this event.

Tickets are on sale at the stadium and at Computicket outlets countrywide, by booking online at www.computicket.com or by dialling 0861 951 8000.

Tickets cost R120 (grand stand), R80 (east stand) or R60 for north and south stands and R30 for scholars. Parking tickets will be on sale at Computicket for R20. Hospitality packages will be sold at the stadium.
