Argument over beer leads to death of Limpopo man

The man's partner, Thuso Netshilema (20) was arrested for murder shortly after and appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court.

LIMPOPO – While South Africa observed 16 Days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children From November 25 to December 10, a 20-year-old woman from the rural village of Vhufuli Khofhe outside Thohoyandou was arrested for murder after she is said to have stabbed her partner during an argument which eventually led to his death.

Acting police spokesperson for the Vhembe region, Serg Vuledzani Dathi said police received a call on December 4 from Donald Fraser Hospital staff that a man was brought to the facility after being stabbed.

“Police proceeded to the hospital and found the half naked man who was already dead.

“It is alleged that he had been stabbed by a sharp object in the left side of his chest during an argument with his partner over sorghum beer (halwa ha mahafhe) at a drinking spot at Vhufuli Khofhe village.”

The deceased was identified as Lucky Gota (26).

Thuso Netshilema appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on December 6 where the case was postponed to December 14 for further police investigation. She was remanded in custody.
